Get inspired by the plants and flowers around you. I took this photo last weekend in my back garden with just my camera, no studio gear what-so-ever! I prefer to try and get close up in order to create a dramatic shape.
The trick is to make sure that the sun hits the flower and that the background is in shade. There will be tons of contrast from this setup. Underexpose the photo by 1 to 2 stops. ( I shot in RAW format for a bit more control later on.) When you process the photo on your computer you can boost the brightness a bit and try and keep the background dark.
