The ESTEC Photo Club was at the World Press Photo exhibition in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam last Sunday.
World Press Photo is an independent, non-profit organization based in Amsterdam. All the prize-winning photographs are assembled into an exhibition that
travels to 45 countries over the course of a year. Over two million people go to a hundred different venues to
see the images.
In addition to selecting the World Press Photo of the Year, the contest determines winners in several categories.
The international jury of the 57th annual World Press Photo
Contest has selected an image by American photographer John Stanmeyer of
the VII Photo Agency as the World Press Photo of the Year 2013. The
picture shows African migrants on the shore of Djibouti city at night,
raising their phones in an attempt to capture an inexpensive signal from
neighboring Somalia. You can see an overview of the winning photos in the various categories here.
